What We Do
Capt. Weldon S. Chivers founded Tacklebuster Charters in 1994. This fishing charter business and booking agency specializes in offering the great Alaska adventure of fishing for halibut, salmon, ling cod and rockfish out of Homer. An experienced captain and crew will provide fishing instruction. Bait and tackle, fish filleting and a warm cabin with seating for all passengers also are provided.

Business Type
Tacklebuster Charters offers fishing for world-famous halibut, salmon, ling cod and rockfish out of Homer, Alaska. Homer is known as the “Halibut Capital of the World” because of the famous flatfish that inhabit the clear, cold waters of Kachemak Bay. Because Kachemak Bay is the back yard for Tacklebuster Charters, we know where the halibut are and how to get you hooked up to Alaska's finest sportfish.

Services Provided
Tacklebuster Charters will provide you with fishing gear, all bait and tackle, fishing instruction and fish filleting. You must catch your own fish, but you can have help landing it. Our main boat is the Tacklebuster, a 38-foot Delta with a heated cabin, private restroom and spacious deck. The boat is Coast Guard inspected and fully licensed and insured. The value season is May 1-May 31 and Sept. 1-Oct. 31. The peak season runs from June 1-Aug. 31. Reserve early to guarantee your seat. Those who make their reservations and pay the 50 percent deposit before the end of February will receive a $5 discount per person.

Service Area
It doesn't matter if you’re an Alaska resident or a first-time visitor to the Last Frontier, Tacklebuster Charters wants to take you on a fishing adventure that you'll remember for the rest of your life. In addition to fantastic fishing, you'll experience the beautiful scenery of Kachemak Bay and sea life such as orcas, otters, sea lions, seals and a variety of seabirds. Don't forget your camera and lots of film.

What to Bring
You will need to bring a fishing license, your lunch and beverages. Your trip will be more enjoyable if you dress in layers and include a warm jacket, cap, gloves, rain gear and shoes or boots with rubber soles. Make sure your camera is full of film.

Payment Options
Our trips are extremely affordable. Prices range from $200-$260 per person, depending on the boat, type of trip and time of year. We require a deposit of 50 percent of your total booking price, less tax, to hold your reservation. The balance is due before departure. Personal checks, money orders and cash also are accepted.

Business Products
Our specialty is getting our clients, no matter what their level of fishing experience, hooked up with a tacklebusting halibut. The Homer Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby each year from May 1-Sept. 30. In 2007, the jackpot prize was $37,243 for a 358.4-pound halibut. You can buy derby tickets at our office.
