What We Do
Dr. David E. Nelson’s expertise is providing all phases of dental implants, from full-sized implants, which replace missing teeth, to mini-implants, which provide stability and support for partial and full dentures. NDI not only offers routine dental cleanings, but also offers Piezo high-frequency ultrasonic cleanings. These ultrasonic cleanings vibrate plaque and calculus off teeth, even in areas below the gums.

NDI offers sedation dentistry, Conscious Sedation, for those who have a high level of anxiety when it comes to dental procedures, those with sensitive teeth, those who have experienced difficulty becoming numb for dental procedures, those who have difficulty with their gag reflex and those who have limited time for complex procedures. For added comfort, warm blankets and pillows also are available.

NDI is located in Homer, Alaska, on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula. Dental visits are by appointment. If an after-hours emergency arises, call the office and leave a message. Calls are returned in a timely manner.

Dr. Nelson is a member of the American Dental Association, the Alaska Dental Society, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the American Society of Dental Anesthesiologists, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Nelson graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry as a Doctor of Dental Surgery in May of 1980.

In addition to the Piezo high frequency ultrasonic cleanings, NDI also offers Diagnodent laser technology to help find tooth decay more consistently. This diagnostic tool helps detect dental disease before more serious damage occurs. Dr. Nelson's office is one of the few in the world to be known as a Nobel Biocare Aesthetic Practice because of Dr. Nelson's training at the Perio Institute in the placement of full-sized dental implants. He has used implant techniques for almost 20 years. Dr. Nelson also has advanced training in the placement of Mini MDI implants.
Year Founded
Dr. Nelson opened his private dental practice in Milwaukee in 1980 and also taught restorative dentistry at Marquette University’s Dental School. He opened his Homer, Alaska, dental office in 2007.
